Submit Data for Quarterly Benchmarking
Are you new to our Trial Balance program? Here is what you need to know about submitting data.
To submit your Trial Balance Report to CoMetrics, export a summary Trial Balance as an XLSX or CSV file from your accounting system, ensure it is unedited and includes account numbers, descriptions, and dollar values, then upload it through the CoMetrics Dashboard under My Data > Trial Balance.
How to submit your Trial Balance report
Export a summary Trial Balance report from your system as an XLSX file. If you can't export an XLSX file, send us a CSV.
Submit an unedited file. Submitting the file without modifications ensures consistent processing each quarter.
Include the right information in your report. Every accounting system has a slightly different format, and we work with what your system generates. Please make sure your report includes the following:
- Account numbers— Each line item needs to have a unique number. If you use accounts and subaccounts, please include both.
- Account Descriptions— Each account needs a description. We rely on descriptions to map your data to the chart of our accounts specific to the Benchmarking program for your group.
- Dollar values for the period — Include values summarized at the account level. Typically, we receive one of the following formats:
- Ending Balance for the period — This is the preferred format to ensure accurate data.
- Debits and Credits only — Typically exported from QuickBooks accounting systems.
- All details — Starting Balance, Debits and Credits, and Ending Balance.
- Trial Balance files must balance (total debits must equal total credits)
- When submitting for multiple periods, upload in order - upload 3/31 before 6/30
- Use the same file format for every upload, including headers and column names e.g., the same columns in the same order each time you upload
- Sign in to https://secure.cometrics.com/sign-in.
- Select My Data from the navigation menu, then choose Trial Balance from the submenu.
- Verify the company associated with the file — in most cases, it is the default option.
- Under Upload Type, select Trial Balance.
- Select the Closing Date that matches the end of the period for the file you are uploading.
- Choose the file saved to your computer.
- Optionally, add a note about any new accounts or changes.
- Click Send File.
- Confirm the upload was successful — a confirmation message will appear on screen once your file has been received.
