# QuickBooks Online: Export a Trial Balance report

## QuickBooks Online has a Trial Balance report that is easy to configure, export and upload.

## How do I set up and export a Trial Balance report in QuickBooks Online?

To set up a Trial Balance report in QuickBooks Online, turn on Account Numbers, customize Cell Settings to use a dash in empty cells, set the reporting period to This Fiscal Year-to-Date, and export as a CSV or Excel file. Follow the steps below to ensure a consistent format every quarter.

QuickBooks Online periodically makes changes, so it is a good idea to review all your settings for your Trial Balance reporting regularly.

## What do I need to configure before running a Trial Balance report?

 Review the following requirements:

- Make sure Account Numbers are turned on and review your accounts and sub-accounts each quarter in your chart of accounts settings to confirm they are all named and numbered correctly.
- In the **Trial Balance Report**, click **Customize** to open **Cell Settings** and set empty cells to display a dash.

- Reporting period: Choose This Fiscal Year-to-Date from the dropdown, and then adjust the "To" date to be the last day of your most recent period that closed.
- Export as a CSV or Excel file (We cannot read PDF reports)
