# How to Upload Trial Balance Data

## Participants in the financial benchmarking programs upload quarterly data to our secure platform. Our Dashboards deliver aggregated results that provide useful insights and pinpoint specific opportunities in your business.

**How do I get started?**  
We offer quarterly benchmarking for groups and for companies. Once your company is enrolled, designated users log in to submit data. Our Dashboards update daily. In many cases, company data is processed the same day and reports updated overnight. 

**When do I submit data?**   
Once fully onboarded, we request that participants upload data within 30 days of closing a quarter. 

**What data do I submit?**  
Export the trial balance from your accounting system using its General Ledger / Trial Balance report functionality. Define the fiscal period or date range in the export so the file covers the exact dates required (for a quarterly submission, include the full quarter). Keep the file structure simple—provide the trial balance “as it comes out of your system” where possible.

- Preferred formats: CSV or XLSX ([contact us](mailto:support@cometrics.com) to confirm alternate formats like txt)
- Date range: Files should include data beginning with fiscal year start date and cover through the last day of the period being submitted (example: Jan 1 through Mar 31 for Q1).
- Single-file submission: Start with one file for the requested period (when onboarding this is typically Q1 of the first year to be included in reports).
- Account identification: Each account **must** have a unique account number and an account name/description.
- Balances: Provide either 
    - an ending balance for each account
    - a combination of debits and credits with a beginning balance so ending balances can be produced

**How do I upload?**

- Log in to your CoMetrics account.
- Go to My Data and select Trial Balance.
- Click "Upload Trial Balance"
- Confirm your Closing Date and proceed to the Next screen
- Add your file and click Submit
